COMPOSITIONS

CHAMBER ENSEMBLE

War (2025) 6'

wind quintet

This is my second woodwind quintet. I composed it in 2024-2025 as a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's Young Composers Initiative with composer-in-residence Jessie Montgomery. This piece is an arrangement and reimagining of a song I wrote called "War." This song is narrated from the perspective of War as an entity commenting on the stupidity of humanity.

Pull of Life from [] Through [] (2024) 7'

string quartet

This is the first movement of a planned four-movement work for string quartet. I composed it in 2023-2024 as a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's Young Composers Initiative with composer-in-residence Jessie Montgomery. In 2025, it was performed in Orchestra Hall by members of the Chicago Symphony, including Assistant Concertmaster Yuan-Qing Yu and Assistant Principal Cello Kenneth Olsen.

Song of Defiance (2021/2024) 4'

brass quintet

This is my second brass quintet. I composed it in 2021 as a member of the Chicago Youth Symphony's young composers program, and I revised it in 2024.

Carousel (2020/2024) 2.5'

brass quintet

This is my first brass quintet. I composed it in 2020 as a member of the Tucson Symphony's young composers project, and I revised it in 2024.

Fragments I (2023) 1.5'

viola trio (for students)

This viola trio was written on commission by Hannah Barton for her viola group class at the DePaul University Community Music School. The parts are of varied levels of difficulty to accommodate beginning and intermediate students playing in an ensemble together. Hannah requested that the piece be short and that it include some basic extended techniques that elementary string players don't often encounter yet.

Farewell to You (2019/2023) 2.5'

string quartet

I wrote a violin waltz with violin accompaniment in 2019 as a goodbye homage to my American fiddling teacher, Matt Brown, when he moved away from Chicago. In 2023, the DuPage Youth Symphony asked me for a short work that their younger ensemble could perform, so I expanded this piece with added voices and a few extra measures. This is the quartet version of that arrangement.

Rising Storm (2022) 3.5'

violin duet

This piece was originally a work for string orchestra that I composed as part of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra's young composers program. I wanted to be able to perform it myself, so I also made it into a violin duet version. The sections are titled The Storm Approaches - The Storm in all its Fury - The Eye of the Storm - The Storm in all its Fury - Complete Chaos. You can decide exactly what kind of storm it is for yourself!

Breezy Syncopations (2022) 2.5'

woodwind quintet

This is my first woodwind quintet. I composed it in 2022 as part of the Chicago Youth Symphony's young composers program. The title refers to the easygoing feeling of the piece, and also to the fact that breeze is a synonym for wind.

Call of the Fairies (2020) 2'

medieval instruments

My first medieval-style piece is in the form of a Saltarello in Mixolydian mode. I have studied medieval music through Seattle Historical Arts for Kids, online and at their summer camp.

Farewell to You, a Waltz for Matt Brown (2019) 2'

violin duet, or violin with violin accompaniment

I wrote this violin waltz in 2019 as a goodbye homage to my American fiddling teacher, Matt Brown, when he moved away from Chicago. In 2023, I expanded it into a piece for string quartet or string orchestra.
